PUWER stipulates that equipment provided for use at work is:

• Suitable and safe for use.
• Maintained in a safe condition and, in certain circumstances, inspected to ensure this remains the case.
• Used by people who have received adequate information, instruction and training.

As a result, employers must ensure that:

• Measures are in place to minimise risks.
• Only fully trained personnel are allowed to use equipment where there is a specific risk.
• Work equipment provided is suitable, maintained and used without risks.

We recognise that ‘obvious risks’ can be identified with commonplace equipment such as ladders, scaffold and forklifts; however we also acknowledge that specialist equipment can be just as dangerous without the necessary safety inspection systems in place.

Our 'Design Your Own' check book allows you to compile your own checklist for any piece of equipment. You identify the checks you need your operatives to carry out on their equipment and simply compile your list in the space provided. This allows you to update and amend your checks until you are satisfied that you have a comprehensive, bespoke inspection system in place. Depending upon the frequency of your equipment inspections, you may wish us to produce bespoke checklists based upon your findings. We can incorporate company logos and information accordingly.
